Weekly Assignment 7/9 - 7/16 (Part 2)

Instead of a Quiz this week, I thought we should have a chance to express a little creativity, while still exploring the complexities of Doctor Zhivago.

As a comment attached to this post, write a short paragraph describing a character’s thoughts at a certain point in the story so far. You may choose any character and any situation. Write as the character would think, and make it specific to a situation or event you've read in Doctor Zhivago. Try and match their language and tone as best you can, but don't worry about being perfect.

After other people have posted, read their paragraphs and try and accurately guess who the character is and what the situation is by commenting on their posts.

  1. It is up to a man of great pride and dignity to knock some senses into these spineless cowards if this country is to ever again have faith in its citizens. Their behavior is simply unacceptable. Russia has suffered enough distress caused by previous wars - and these traitors are choosing to deviate from their own brethren? How insulting to those who fight like men! I must disgrace them into seeing the truth and honor they have willingly turned a blind eye from.

  2. I wonder why my room is nearly empty except for that doctor. Hahahahaha. Why does he almost laugh when I pronounce some words? Russia must rebuild itself from its ashes.

    1. I'm very tempted to say Commissar Gints for that thought process alone...the scene when the doctor visits the commandant's room before leaving Meliuzeievo.

    2. I second Maria's guess or it's the deaf youth from the train because Zhivago thinks he pronounces words strangely. I'm more confident about Commissar Gints though.

    3. No, I think you're right. Grrr, why didn't I notice the accent part? Anyway, good job, Scout! :D

  3. I feel the colour of shame rise to my cheeks as I watch him dance with yet another woman. She is so innocent and pure but her innocence will be ceased in a matter of moments and it won't matter what she does to stop it. She will forever relive these darkest moments in her head like I do everyday. There is nothing to discuss. He will never change and I can already predict the outcome of our "discussion". If I think about it, I won't do it. I can feel it cold and new yet oddly familiar in my hand. I am thrown back by the force of it. It is done.

    1. That sounds like Lara when she sees Komarovsky at the Christmas party. The man described is toying with a woman, which fits his character perfectly, and the object she talks about at the end must be the gun she shot at Kornakov.

    2. You got it :D I'm still trying to figure out yours, but I figure I'll crack it eventually.
